How we at Prosperity Children’s Services embrace the “Psychological Contract” within our business.

The term “Psychological Contract” refers to an exchange relationship based on trust, expectations, beliefs and an understanding of mutual responsibilities between the employer and an employee.

It emphasizes the importance of the “human” side to employment relationships, therefore, here at PCS, the psychological contracts we foster are a reflection of the caring and nurturing relationships we have with the children and young people in our care.

The psychological contract includes beliefs around:

  • Job security
  • Career prospects
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Fairness of pay and benefits
  • Management support

Therefore, how do we create trust and confidence around these beliefs here at PCS?

Job Security

From the first point of contact with PCS, whether as a valued candidate for a role or as someone who comes to us having been referred to us by a current employee, we show you how our drive to make the lives of vulnerable children and young people has been at the core of our growth.

By joining PCS, you will be part of a determination to provide safe and nurturing homes to children and young people and how our aim is to keep growing and keep creating safe places.

Career prospects

Whether you come to us with absolutely no experience at all or with years of experience, we provide you with a clear pathway to forge and maintain your career within residential childcare. We provide specialist and bespoke training and specific Leadership Development that fosters the PCS values and ethics and shows you a career pathway directly into top management. At PCS we want you to succeed, so we show you the way.

Training and development opportunities

In order to meet the needs and expectations of all our colleagues, we take our training and development opportunities very seriously. We design and deliver fresh, innovative and completely bespoke training, video sessions, drop-in sessions, mentoring and face-to-face courses to support our people to deliver the best outcomes for our children and young people, but more than this, we recognize that no child is the same and therefore we must keep our training alive and relevant. We thrive on motivating our teams and creating the energy and drive that PCS are renowned for.

Fairness of pay and benefits

Any organization that does not recognise the impact of the cost-of-living crisis and the impact of work on an individual’s health and wellbeing is breaching those mutual understandings between employer and employee.

At PCS we understand that fair pay is how we show our respect for our colleagues and their families. We benchmark our pay against industry standards and other providers and always stay ahead of the curve. This is a matter of respect and dignity and set deeply into our core values.

We take the health and wellbeing of our colleagues equally seriously and it is a matter of pride that we can give free and unlimited support for the physical and mental health of our teams and even their families. Whether it is worry about the cost of dental work, personal relationships, financial advice, urgent medical needs or simply someone to talk to, we are there, helping our staff to feel and be the best they can be.

Management support

In order to make sure that we embody our psychological contract with all of our colleagues, we must also provide the day to day and longer reaching management support, where we foster a culture of “no fear of failure” and encourage innovation, openness and courage.

We also recognize that as managers in our business, there is a heavy burden of responsibility and that we must take our share of this responsibility by supporting managers to be the best they can be and to achieve their goals.

At Prosperity Children’s Services, we recognize how the quality of our psychological contracts heavily influences how our colleagues behave from day to day. We believe that when colleagues “feel” their contributions to our organization, understand the positive impact of their contributions every day and are treated in a balanced and fair way, there must always be positive outcomes.

Our commitment to the Psychological Contract is more than a concept—it is a daily promise to our colleagues and, in turn, to the children and young people we support. By nurturing a culture built on trust, fairness, opportunity and genuine care, we ensure our teams feel valued, empowered and connected to our mission. When our people thrive, our children thrive. That is why we remain dedicated to strengthening these bonds, evolving with the needs of our workforce, and continuing to build a workplace where everyone can grow, succeed and make a lasting difference. Together, we create a community defined by purpose, compassion and possibility.
